2010 Ryder Cup

In 2010 the Ryder Cup tournament will return to the United Kingdom. The event will be played between 1st and 3rd of October at the Celtic Manor golf cub in Newport, Wales. In the 38th Ryder Cup the United States will attempt to defend its Ryder Cup title on the specially prepared Twenty Ten course.

2010 Ryder Cup Teams

Basic preparations for the 2010 Ryder Cup began soon after the conclusion of the 2008 event. While the team captains will spend two years plotting their Ryder Cup campaigns, the sculpting of the Ryder Cup teams will begin towards the end of 2009 when the Ryder Cup rankings tables in the United States and Europe are opened.

Ten players from Europe will have the opportunity to qualify automatically for the 2010 Ryder Cup by recording good performances in the year leading up to the event, with the remaining two selections made at the discretion of the European team captain.

Meanwhile, players in the United States will strive to secure one of the eight automatic qualifying positions in their team, with the remaining four positions allocated by the United States Ryder Cup team captain. With Tiger Woods likely to be fit, the defending champions are virtually certain to enter the tournament as hot favourites to retain their title.

The Twenty Ten Course - Celtic Manor Resort

The Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, Wales, will host the 2010 Ryder Cup. In 2007 the Wentwood Hills course at the Celtic Manor Resort had undergone extensive redevelopment in preparation for the Ryder Cup, and the 2010 event will be held on the resulting ‘Twenty Ten’ golf course.
